Nestled between the protective embrace of the Alps to the north and west and the moderating influence of the Adriatic Sea to the south, South Styria offers a unique terroir. Reinhard defines it as an Illyrian climate—characterized by generous Mediterranean sunshine, dramatic temperature variations, and abundant rainfall. While complex and demanding, these conditions present exceptional opportunities for a winemaker with patience, precision, and mastery.

For Reinhard, everything begins in the vineyard: only the finest grapes can yield outstanding wines. The ripest fruit is matured in a combination of wooden barrels and stainless-steel tanks before being bottled under the ILLYR label. Grapes from select single vineyards, such as Grubthal, undergo fermentation and a lengthy aging process of 20 to 30 months in both new and seasoned wooden barrels, resulting in wines of remarkable depth and character.
