SOUTH AFRICA, White
---------------
-> Big Easy - Chenin Blancཌྷ, Ernie Els Wines, 750 ml
This 100% Chenin Blanc offers an amazing array of tropical fruits, showing the complexity the Cape has to offer. A delicate, perfumed nose balances the crystalline structure and moderately full-bodied palate, completely unhindered by any oak. A hint of almond flakes and sprinkle of spice adds texture and depth. A lively, spritely and juicy wine that builds and builds to finish in a creamy pina-colada cocktail-swirl.

-> Big Easy Cabernet Sauvignonཋ, Ernie Els Wines, 750 ml
The Big Easy Cabernet Sauvignon shows immediate nuances of red fruits, Chinese spice and a hint of damp earth. The palate is medium-bodied, loaded with succulent raspberries and cherries, sprinkled with dried goji berries on the finish. Crunchy tannins balance the primary fruit, deftly supported by soft, creamy oak and finished off by a pinch of mixed ground pepper. It's easy-going, delicious and yet refined.
Louis Strydom has gone back to the traditional style made on the foothills of the Helderberg mountain, where Cabernet Sauvignon and Cinsaut were planted together from around the 1920's, and the two varieties were later blended together to make a wine that is softer and rounder in style for early enjoyment.

-> Big Easy - redཌ, Ernie Els Wines, 750 ml
An alluring kaleidoscope of black fruits, Christmas cake, liquorice and cinnamon tempt your nose, leading to a dense and full- bodied palate. Abound with spice from the dominant Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon adds punchy tannins and a robust structure. Floral and savoury notes from Mourvedre, Cinsaut and Vigonier all contribute to the exotic rhythm of the Big Easy. Finally rounded-off by the gentle, sweet-fruited finish from a dash of comforting Grenache. Delicious now, it will swing easy for another 5 years.

-> Cabernet Sauvignonཋ, Ernie Els Wines, 750 ml
This black-centered, beguiling and multi-dimensional Cabernet Sauvignon displays red rather than black fruits. Pencil shavings on the nose lead to a fresh entry and full-bodied succulent palate. A salty, savoury complexity with notes of graphite and tobacco overlay its modern, finely-tuned frame. The tannins are immense but polished, balanced by the vivid fruit of the wonderful 2012 vintage. Precise and varietally flawless, expect this brilliant Cabernet to have a serious future ahead whilst the tannins find their feet.
Aged for 17 months – 300 liter French Oak barrels (20% new)

-> Proprietor's Syrahཊ, Ernie Els Wines, 750 ml
The Proprietor's Syrah immediately leaps from the glass with layers of mocha, cinnamon and dense spicy fruit. The palate shows a contrast of dried sage over maraschino cherry in an exotic, graphite-like body. Rich, glossy black and blueberry fruits stain the glass, offering powerful depth against the backdrop of mouth-coating, succulent tannins. The finish is bold and lingers for minutes with primary red fruits and a hint of fine espresso foam. Impressive now, further aging will add even more complexity.
Aged for 17 months – 70% in 300 liter French Oak barrels & 30% in 300 liter American Oak Barrels.

-> DE TOREN 'Z'ཉ, De Toren, 750 ml
Stephen Tanzer's comment:
Good deep red. Crushed blackberry, plum and spicecake on the nose. Rich, dense and chewy, with good cedary lift to the dark chocolate and graphite flavours. An accessible merlot-driven blend in a New Wave style but with solid structure and a nicely restrained sweetness. Finishes firm and long.

The planning for this wine centred around producing another top quality red blend from De Toren, yet different in style to Fusion V. Clever planting of block "Z" allows cooling summer breezes passing up the vineyard rows and giving a new meaning to air-conditioning the vines.

This cooling effect results in a longer ripening period and together with the higher clay content in the soil has created a unique site specific wine.

Attesting to the quality of their wines, De Toren has been chosen to supply the proprietary wine for the world's greatest hotel: The Burj Al Arab Jumeira in Dubai!
