Blue Danube Selection (6 Bottle Set)

Join me for a wine tasting tour along the beautiful Danube river from the Wachau valley to Vienna. We will pick up a Gruener Veltliner Federspiel from the steep, terraced slopes in Woesendorf, two red wines, a Zweigelt and Pinot Noir, from the gently sloping riverbank opposite the city of Krems, a bottle of Roter Veltliner from the deep loess deposits of the Wagram, a bottle of Sekt and a Wiener Gemischter Satz from Stift Klosterneuburg from vineyards on the Nussberg which overlooks the historic city of Vienna.

This special 6-bottle edition includes 1 bottle each of:

- Grüner Veltliner Federspiel, Kollmütz'18, Machherndl, (Austria, Wachau, white )

Bright citron-yellow, apples, pears, gooseberries, this wine surprises with its fruitiness, typical spicy and minerality on the palate, a hint of mint in the finish.

Named after the Wachau Classification, Federspiel wines are elegant and medium bodied. The name also refers to the wings of a dove used in falconry.

- Zweigelt Goettweiger Berg'19, Weingut Malat, (Austria, Kremstal, Red )

Ruby red with aromas of dark berries and wild cherries. Full and spicy with hints of kompott and cinnamon, soft and well structured with velvety tannins. Lively acidity is vital to Zweigelt. Medium body with a fine, lingering finish.

- Pinot Noir Classic'19, Weingut Malat, (Austria, Kremstal, red )

Wonderfully gulpable, aromatic Pinot Noir with lovely scents of velvet, and deep raspberry flavors, enhanced by subtle spice. Elegant, juicy and very enjoyable!

- Roter Veltliner Scheiben'19, Weingut Leth, (Austria, Wagram, White )

A powerhouse white with well integrated alcohol this aristocratic white possesses aromas of dried figs and raisins. Acidity well balanced and aged for 6 months in large oak barrels.
Leth has practiced sustainable viticulture and not used chemicals for 25 years in the vineyards and grows his own yeasts.
Wine lovers now rediscover the potential of Roter Veltliner and the 40 year old Scheiben vineyard, made up completely of loess, brings out this rare varietal's fresh and exotic characteristics very beautifully.

- Wiener Gemischter Satz'19, Stift Klosterneuburg, (Austria, Wien, White )

This flield blend, consisting of Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay and Weissburgunder (Pinot blanc), originates from Vienna's most prestigious vineyard, the Nussberg and is considered Vienna's most honest, direct and traditional expression of terroir. The wine presents itself youthful and fresh with a multi-layered bouquet of green apple, soft minerals, flowery notes and stone fruit. The absence of wood flavors and a lively acidity provide zest and make it a welcome companion at the table.
Vienna's most honest, direct and traditional expression of terroir.
Traditionally, the vineyards in and around Vienna were inter-planted with several varieties. This produced a wine referred to as “gemischter Satz” or “vineyard blend”, where nobody really knew (or cared) what varieties it actually included. Gemischter Satz is currently enjoying a great comeback.

- Klostersekt', Stift Klosterneuburg, (Austria, Wien, Sparkling )

This sparkling classic is characterized by clear, fresh and fruity aromas of apples and lime on the nose. Due to a yeast contact of at least 9 months the Klostersekt displays an harmonious aroma expression on the palate. With its elegant mousseux the Klostersekt can be enjoyed as an aperitif or with starters or desserts. Enjoyable, animating bubbles at a reasonable price.
